It may seem that there is a festival every month on Ambergris Caye, from the start of the year to the end, San Pedro loves a good celebration. Here are some of the festivals celebrated on Ambergris Caye:

New Year’s Eve Block Party – San Pedro ushers in the New Year with a grand block party considered the best in all the country. Central Park comes alive on New Year’s Eve with live music and dance performances. At the stroke of midnight, a brilliant fireworks display lights up the sky. The party goes on till the wee hours of January 1st.

El Gran Carnaval de San Pedro – A cultural event dating back centuries, San Pedro’s 4-day Carnaval is colourful homage to the Spanish culture. It kicks off with a block party followed by three days of painting and fun. The celebration ends on Ash Wednesday with the traditional burning of Juan Carnaval.

Easter – Easter on Ambergris Caye means beach parties. The island’s prime beach spots hosts grand parties on Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday with much music and revelry. Top stop to be include the Boca Del Rio Beach and Secret Beach.

San Pedro Lobster Fest – It’s all about the Spiny Lobster! Lobster Fest is a weeklong festival that start on June 15th, the opening of the Lobster Fishing Season in Belize. Throughout the week, restaurants and bars host lobster themed parties. The festival culminates in a block party with live music and plenty lobster to eat.

Dia de San Pedro – On June 28th, San Pedro pays homage to its patron saint, Saint Peter. While the Catholic Church host an array of religious activities such as a boat procession and blessings, the San Pedro Town Council celebrates the island’s special day with a fishing tournament during the day and a festival at night

September Celebrations – There isn’t a more festive month in all of Belize than September. We consider it to be our most patriotic month of the year as it host two of the country’s most important holidays, The Battle of St. George’s Caye Day and Independence Day. The entire month if full activities but the highlight is the block party on Independence Day Eve and of course, the Independence Day parade.

Garifuna Settlement Day – Held on November 19th, Garifuna Settlement Day honours the arrival of the Garinagu people to Belize. Here in San Pedro, the day is celebrated with a cultural fair at Central Park where you can experience the music, dance and food of the Garifuna.

The Holiday Lighted Boat Parade – An island favourite ushering the Christmas Season, the San Pedro Holiday Boat Parade is fun for the whole family. Feel festive as you watch brightly decorated boats cruise along the coast of Ambergris Caye. There is no better way to get your holiday cheer on!
